On the morning of June 11, Consul General Tran Huy Hung, Consuls Nguyen Hoai Phu and Nguyen Thanh Duc of the Consulate General of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam in Shanghai, together with a faculty-student delegation from the International Education Institute of Van Lang University, visited Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Vice President Liu Weidong received the guests at the Minhang Campus.

Accompanying the meeting were Xu Fang, Party Secretary of the School of Agriculture and Biology; Yin Shan, Vice Dean of the School; Wang Qian, Deputy Director of the Division of Global Cooperation and Exchange; and Li Yi, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Education Development Foundation.

Vice President Liu Weidong extended a warm welcome to the delegation and introduced the university’s recent achievements in talent cultivation, disciplinary development, scientific and technological innovation, and international cooperation. He noted that 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of China-Vietnam diplomatic relations and is designated as the "China-Vietnam Year of People-to-People Exchanges." The leaders of both countries have jointly charted the course for building a China-Vietnam community with a shared future. In April of this year, Consul General Tran Huy Hung visited SJTU to attend the university's 130th anniversary celebrations, reflecting the steadily growing interactions between the two sides. Liu Weidong expressed that SJTU attaches great importance to scientific and educational exchanges with countries along the Belt and Road, and looks forward to expanding cooperation in joint research, faculty and student exchanges, and the commercialization of technological achievements, contributing to the development of both China and Vietnam.

Consul General Tran Huy Hung expressed his gratitude for SJTU's warm reception and recalled his previous visit to the university for its 130th anniversary celebrations. He noted that China and Vietnam share geographical proximity and cultural affinity, and that educational exchanges serve as an important bridge for enhancing mutual understanding among the youth and consolidating the foundation of people-to-people friendship. He highlighted SJTU's outstanding strengths in talent cultivation, scientific innovation, and international collaboration, emphasizing the broad prospects for China-Vietnam educational cooperation. He expressed the hope that this visit would serve as an opportunity to further strengthen communication and coordination between universities and enterprises of the two countries, and to achieve more tangible outcomes in talent cultivation, youth exchanges, research collaboration, and industry-academia linkages.

Dr. Dang Thi Huyen Trang, Academic Affairs Coordinator of the International Education Institute at Van Lang University, spoke on behalf of the visiting delegation. She expressed gratitude to Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the Consulate General of Vietnam in Shanghai, and all supporting organizations for their thoughtful arrangements for this exchange. She introduced Van Lang University's educational programs, distinctive features in international education, and student development models. She noted that Van Lang University places high priority on internationalization and hopes that this visit will enhance its faculty and students' understanding of China's higher education system, agricultural technology innovation, and campus culture, while further exploring possibilities for collaboration in student exchanges and cross-cultural learning.

Xu Fang, Party Secretary of the School of Agriculture and Biology, spoke on behalf of the School. He noted that the School leverages SJTU's interdisciplinary strengths to advance scientific research, talent cultivation, and the deep integration of industry, academia, and research. He added that Van Lang University is distinguished by its international approach to education, and expressed hope that both sides would use this visit as an opportunity to strengthen faculty-student exchanges, research collaboration, and people-to-people connections, jointly advancing agricultural science and education between China and Vietnam.

During the symposium, Liangyun Agricultural Technology (Wuchang) Co., Ltd. donated to establish the "International Youth Cross-Cultural Exchange Fund" at the School, specifically supporting faculty and students in international exchanges, overseas study tours, and agricultural technology innovation practices. Liu Junzhu, Senior Director of Strategic Development at Liangyun Group, and Li Yi, Deputy Secretary-General of the SJTU Education Development Foundation, signed the agreement, with Jia Hongtong, Founder and Chairman of Liangyun Group, and Xu Fang, Party Secretary of the School, witnessing the ceremony. Liangyun's eco-partners—including Hongcan, Otaigong, Taisheng Pharmaceutical, and Sanman Biotech—were also present. The China-Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Shanghai Yingyue provided active assistance and support for the successful organization of this event.

Faculty and students from both sides engaged in exchanges and sharing, further deepening mutual understanding. The delegation then visited the teaching and experimental farm to gain a detailed understanding of the university's agricultural research and practical teaching achievements.

In the afternoon, the Van Lang University delegation visited the university's Student Center, where they interacted with current students and experienced the vibrant campus atmosphere and student life. The delegation then toured Dalingjiu Technology Development Co., Ltd. and the Lingang Technology Building, gaining a more direct and in-depth understanding of SJTU's integration of industry, academia, and research, university-enterprise collaboration, and the commercialization of research outcomes.

This exchange has strengthened ties among all parties and established a solid platform for cooperation in talent cultivation, research collaboration, and university-industry linkages. Moving forward, all sides will continue to deepen their engagement and work together to promote the steady and sustained progress of China-Vietnam university cooperation and youth exchanges.
