On May 7, a delegation led by Yin Haitao, Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, together with Zhou Tianqi, Program Coordinator, visited the School of Agriculture and Biology for a special research and discussion focused on enhancing the quality and efficiency of international education and expanding Sino-foreign cooperative programs. The meeting was attended by Ai Lianzhong, Dean of the School of Agriculture and Biology; Yin Shan, Vice Dean; Wang Zhihao and Bai Ling from the School’s Cooperation and Exchange Office. The session was chaired by Yin Shan.
Yin Shan extended a warm welcome to the delegation on behalf of the School. He noted that internationalization is a core strategy for the School’s long-term development and a key element underpinning its pursuit of high-level excellence. Wang Zhihao delivered a special report on the School’s progress in internationalization, covering disciplinary structure, international partnership networks, student overseas exchange programs, summer school operations, and the advancement of key cooperative projects.
Yin Haitao highlighted the latest outcomes of the University’s recent visits to European institutions, providing a systematic introduction to partnership opportunities and interests from world-leading agricultural universities such as the University of Nottingham (UK) and University College Dublin (Ireland). He emphasized that the University places a high priority on the international positioning of agricultural education. He expressed support for the School to draw on proven models of cooperation, and to engage in diversified partnerships—including joint student training and faculty academic collaboration—based on its disciplinary strengths. These efforts, he noted, will steadily scale up and improve the quality of international collaboration.
During the discussion, Dean Ai Lianzhong reaffirmed the School’s commitment to the international cooperation principle of “high starting point, high standard, strategic focus, and tangible results.” He stated that the School prioritizes deep collaboration with world-renowned overseas universities that lead in disciplinary rankings and are well recognized by faculty and students. The School will accelerate the evaluation and feasibility study of its international partners, while steadily expanding cooperation pathways with top global agricultural institutions.
Dean Ai also noted that this research meeting has provided valuable guidance for the School in clarifying its development strategy, overcoming expansion challenges, and optimizing its program portfolio. Moving forward, the School will strictly follow the University’s overall guidance, focus on its internationalization goals, continue to deepen practical cooperation with world-leading agricultural universities, and further enhance its international capacity in talent cultivation, scientific research, and social services—contributing to SJTU’s mission of building a world-class university.
