On December 19, 2025, the Ninth Green Valley International Young Scholars Forum was grandly held by the School of Agriculture and Biology at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Centered on the theme of “Gathering Global Talents, Empowering Agricultural Innovation,” the forum attracted over 50 outstanding young scholars from countries and regions including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Austria, who gathered to discuss cutting-edge developments in the discipline. Party Secretary of the School Hou Shibing, along with other members of the school’s leadership, attended the event. The forum was hosted by Chen Han, Deputy Party Secretary of the School.
Prior to the official opening of the forum, participating scholars joined online the Sixth “Zhiyuan” International Young Scholars Forum of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. They gained a comprehensive understanding of the university’s comprehensive strengths and development vision in areas such as personnel policies, research platform development, and the cultivation of an academic ecosystem, laying a solid foundation for subsequent in-depth exchanges.
At the forum, Vice Dean Niu Yuge presented an introduction to the school. She systematically showcased the school’s recent development achievements and core competitiveness in agriculture and biology from multiple dimensions, including historical heritage, disciplinary structure, faculty strength, research breakthroughs, talent cultivation, and future planning. Niu Yuge emphasized the implementation pathways of the school’s “Talent-Strengthening Strategy,” detailing a series of policies supporting young scholars in research, career development, and living conditions. She extended a sincere invitation to global talents to join and collaborate in shaping the future.
To allow attendees to gain an intuitive understanding of the school’s talent development environment and vitality, the forum featured a session for talent representatives to share their experiences. Tenure Track Associate Professor Li Jie, recipient of the National Young Talents Program, shared her growth insights since joining the school in terms of research endeavors and teamwork, and expressed sincere gratitude for the high-quality platform resources and efficient support services provided by the university and the school.
Tenure Track Associate Professor Zhang Wencan from the Department of Animal Science, also a recipient of a national-level project, shared her experiences in team building and life in Shanghai, offering practical and valuable references for the attending scholars based on her personal journey.
During the academic exchange session, two top young scholars presented their cutting-edge research findings. Postdoctoral Fellow Yu Zishuo from Harvard University, USA, and Postdoctoral Fellow Gu Yangqi from the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, UK, each took the stage to focus on core issues in their respective research fields. They provided in-depth interpretations of the latest research progress and innovative ideas, demonstrating profound academic expertise and broad international perspectives, and delivered a high-quality feast of academic thought for the audience.
In his closing remarks, Hou Shibing emphasized that the school remains committed to building a high-quality platform where talents can “find a stage to showcase their abilities, receive support for innovation and entrepreneurship, and enjoy space for growth and development.” He stressed that the school is dedicated to enabling every talent to gain empowerment, achieve value elevation, and truly realize “making the best use of each individual’s talents.” He once again extended a sincere invitation to all scholars.
Since its inception, the Green Valley International Young Scholars Forum has consistently upheld its original vision of openness and inclusiveness. It has become an important bridge for the school to connect with global talents in agricultural sciences, attracting outstanding young scholars from around the world. To date, over 40 outstanding scholars have joined the School of Agriculture and Biology through the forum.
Moving forward, the School of Agriculture and Biology at Shanghai Jiao Tong University will continue to embrace global talents with open arms. With more refined policy support, a superior academic ecosystem, and stronger developmental foundations, the school will persistently build a solid platform for outstanding young scholars to pursue their careers and realize their dreams.
