On December 5, the 39th Conference of the Urban Agricultural Colleges and Universities Alliance was held in Kunming, Yunnan, hosted by Kunming University. Attending the meeting were Hou Shibing, Party Secretary of the School of Agriculture and Biology, along with Vice Deans Yin Shan and Zhao Yichen. They were joined by representatives from Southwest University, Beijing University of Agriculture, Tianjin Agricultural University, Qingdao Agricultural University, Zhongkai University of Agriculture and Engineering, and other institutions for discussions on talent cultivation in urban agriculture and inter-university collaboration.
At the conference, Vice Dean Yin Shan delivered a report titled "Exploring a Talent Cultivation Model for Urban Agriculture under the New Agricultural Sciences Framework." He reviewed the college's reform and development since its merger, emphasizing its deep commitment to the New Agricultural Sciences initiative. He elaborated on the college's talent cultivation efforts through a "Five-Stage" training system and the enhancement of practical education platforms. Over the past five years, the college has achieved fruitful research outcomes, with its undergraduate enrollment ranking first among agricultural institutions and its postgraduate intake continuously improving in quality. The college will continue to align with the Agricultural Power Strategy, cultivating outstanding innovative talents in agricultural sciences who possess both a sense of social responsibility and an international perspective.
During the group discussions, Secretary Hou Shibing engaged in in-depth exchanges with representatives from other universities on topics including talent training, discipline development, and quality assurance. He also delivered the concluding remarks at the conference.
The event successfully showcased the distinctive strengths and characteristics developed by member institutions in talent cultivation, scientific research, and social services, laying a solid foundation for further enhancing cooperation among the universities.
