报告人简介:

Dr. Dan LI is an Assistant Professor in Food Science and Technology at the National University of Singapore (NUS). She obtained her Ph.D. in Applied Biological Science from Ghent University, Belgium in 2012 and worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Ghent University, Belgium from 2013 to 2018. She did exchange research at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, USA in 2011 and Nantes University, France in 2014. Her research interests include Food Microbiology and Food Safety, especially detection and mitigation of foodborne viruses, microbial safety of urban agriculture systems.

 

报告内容简介:

This talk will present the current research progress over foodborne viruses, more specifically noroviruses (NoVs). First of all, a comprehensive discussion over the current molecular detection method detecting NoVs from foods will be given, covering the pitfalls of data interpretation with genuine examples. Secondly, the binding ability of NoVs to histo-blood group antigens will be reviewed from four different points of view: binding for infection, use of virus binding properties in virus inhibition, binding for transmission, and use of virus binding properties in virus detection (sample preparation vs. viability prediction). It serves as a good example of the complexity when bridging clinical virology with applied (food) virology. In addition, the current foodborne virus-related projects/topics in our research group will also be presented.
